It's a Horse Thing

This was the first real weekend of our Run For the Roses contest races. There were four races on the slate at several different parks, but there were really only two races with highly regarded contenders, Any Given Saturday andHard Spun . Any Given Saturday blasted away to a solid win in the Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay on Saturday while Hard Spun got caught 4 wide in the final turn and ended up just out of the money in the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn.

I expect Any Given Saturday to power to a win, but I expected more from Hard Spun. Perhaps Mario Pino didn't give him the trip he needed.

The contest takes a break until March 3 when there will be four big races:

3/3Hutcheson II Gulfstream $150,000 7 1/2f HRTV
3/3Fountain of Youth II Gulfstream $350,000 1 1/8m HRTV
3/3 Robert B. Lewis II Santa Anita $200,000 1 1/16m HRTV
3/3 John Battaglia Memorial
Turfway $100,000 1 1/16m TVG

So if you haven't registered your stable yet, you really need to get with it.

Experimenting

I thought it might be interesting to see some RSS feeds on this site. So I'm currently experimenting using Bloodhorse RSS Headlines. They also offer feeds for each of their other sections including breeding and racing. I haven't checked out yet to see if DRF or other sites have RSS news feeds, too. I suspect, based on what I've seen after just one subscription, that adding more feeds would visually bog the blog down.

I've added an ego-pumping web counter to the bottom of the page. The counter allows me to track computer IP addresses, thus I can tell where the visitor was from. It doesn't go in to exact detail. In other words, I don't learn personal information other than connection's town and the computer's IP address.

All of this is erasable.
